Milions of used to be black people in the past did what was called "passing" if they were very light skinned and had straight hair. They then went on to marry and/or sire children with white people who didnt know their background and had children who believe they were only white. I wonder in these still racist times we live in today if your company will ever show someone who has the courage to do a commercial about that? Probably not.
Ok, cool. I really don't care that much, it is just a fun test that matches my dna with random people in the world. Geneaology is a sure wearisome task and a waste of time.
You need one more category, gypsy
Focus on the Americas not all your customers are whites
You changed my estimate completely ?How am I related to my cousins still if they have the old match. Ughhhh???
I appreciate the update but my Nigerian disappeared and I have Nigerian cousins.
I wish they'd seperate North, Central and South Americas, and even have regions within each.
Also make the ethnicity searchable, as in I'd like to search my shared DNA results with Native American, etc.
So called “next-generation ethnicity estimate” is grossly inaccurate and does not even match many of my 3rd and 4th genetic cousin matches’ ancestry (Portuguese and Spanish). No more Iberian DNA. My Italian (Sicilian)/South European DNA is gone also even though I have Sicilian cousin matches. The African side is non-sensical and does not match what is known about the West African enslaved and taken to the Caribbean. As someone pointed out Ancestry has lost credibility. The version before made sense and all regions could be accounted for by paying attention to my genetic cousin matches.
My last name isn’t my actual last name my grandfather was adopted when he was my age or when he was in the army my birth last name is harvey but my actual last name is Hotalen. So the people in the hints aren’t my family
I've gone from having many different European bits from all over to 85% France…I'm a Canadian whose ancestors came to New France (Quebec), centuries ago. My DNA is currently being retested at my extreme insistence. Ancestry claims it was due to an update in 2016. Well, I got my results in December of 2016 so I hadn't seen what my DNA looked like previous to that! An excited adoptee who is a 2nd cousin contacted me immediately! Our grandfathers are brothers! In January 2017, I had a paternal aunt's DNA tested and she was a close match to this adoptee, 1st-2nd cousins, the adoptee's father and my aunt are 1st cousins! So exciting! Well by April 2017, this adoptee dropped to a distant 5th-8th cousin to both myself and my aunt with barely any shared DNA. How does this even happen? I expect ethnicity to change over time as more and more regions are tested and as the database grows. Tell me though, how many times have these updates caused a close DNA match to lose shared DNA?
I feel like my new results more accurately identify my ancestry as well as my husbands. I have known from my family history research that I’m not that ethnically diverse, and my DNA results are better reflecting that. My husbands results are also now narrowed a bit to better identify his diverse background. I would like to see more Native American breakdown for his to better identify his family origins and hope to see that in near future.
Thanks, for new and improved results. Something the other company should work on
Thanks
Ancestry credibility is gone, my new results are poor at best, I have painstakingly researched my past and my results seemed more accurate before, why 29 markers in Ireland a country with less than 5 million people and 14 in England a country with 55 million ? It wouldn’t be because a lot of your market is a American and Irish is an important ancestry in the USA would it ?
I don’t like the update! It now appears that my first results were a lie or the new results aren’t accurate!
Bring back the trace regions.
I would like to know the references for Cameroon,Congo and southern Bantu people,as I am trying to trace my African roots
Can someone from ancestry please look at my results and fix them so they are actually accurate (you can't claim that they are more scientifically accurate if the results are random and makes no sense based on actual confirmed ancestry. Can't even say it had to do with borders that overlap as Spain isn't next to Germany)? I tried asking for help and got none. My results are so inaccurate and makes no sense given my family background and records (changes were so drastic). Mom's background is mostly English, Scottish and Welsh with only a tiny bit of German and Dutch plus some distant Irish, Scandinavian (Norwegian and Swedish) and Russian/Eastern European. My dad's background is Mexican and New Mexican descent with mostly Spanish (confirmed Northern Spain and Basque ancestry mainly), Native American, etc…
Most of that is all gone despite the original results closely lining up with records and other tests and just became 62% Germanic Europe. My mom isn't full German and Dutch and my dad has none. It should be around 15% at most.
Old results-
Ireland/Scotland/Wales 25%

Will there be a new White Paper?
Will there be a "Genetic Diversity" section like there was last time? Number of samples in the library, Common Regions found in the reference sample/library, Typical Native, etc.
I found those extremely valuable, and it is why I recommended ancestry over other dna kits.
Don't get me wrong … I think Ancestry.com is amazing & so are all of the people that make it all possible! Also, my DNA only took 4 weeks after they received it. However, my husband took his DNA test the exact same way & time as me, & after 7 weeks after they received it they told him he had to do a 2nd test. Now, 2nd test: drooled good again, no spit bubbles … 8/7 activated, 8/8 mailed, 8/20 received, 9/5 sample processing & still hasn't moved from there since. So no word for 3 weeks. Keep in mind both my parents sent their DNA off together, after his 2nd test, & they got theirs back 9/14 & 9/17. So we are pretty sure he's going to have to do it a to 3rd time & I just don't understand why? Why are they having such a hard time with his DNA??
